Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

New Information: I did not appeal in the previous years because I did not believe that I would need my transcripts to help achieve the goals in my life. I have been battling with various mental illnesses for a significant period of my life and was never given an accurate diagnosis to manage my mental illnesses. I have recently been diagnosed with ADD and believe that there has been significant improvements in my ability to achieve the grades that I believe I have the capacity to achieve.

With my new diagnosis, I have developed the proper motivation to achieve my academic goals. Being provided with medication, I now have the ability to maintain focus and participate in class which ultimately made a significant impact on my ability to understand and absorb the material. With my new found motivation, I believe I have the capacity and the ability to achieve my innate desire to apply to law school. However, the grades in my first two years reflect my past struggles with depression. I believe it is not an accurate reflection of my current capabilities as a student or as an individual. My inability to focus in my first two years resulted in my lack of attendance in lectures. I only attended 4 lectures in my first two years of academic studies. My ability to pass the courses despite the lack of attendance can attest to my mental capabilities as a student, however I lacked the motivation and focus to achieve the grades I know are possible.

I have not appealed previously as I did not expect to improve. Therefore, the appeal process would be unwarranted as I believed my grades were an accurate representation of my abilities as an individual. However with the new diagnosis, I believe that I am more capable than I was in my previous years and I do not believe that my past should hinder my success in the future. My capabilities in my previous years have been diminished to an un-diagnosed condition that has recently been diagnosed.
