Petition Letter

Petition Letter: To the Associate Dean,

I am Appealing to drop STATS 263 Summer 2018 for certain academic inconveniences.

I decided to enroll in STAT 263 as a requirement for my intentions pursuing the psychology medial. However, during the spring term of my second year, I decided to enroll in Conde Nast College of Fashion and Design in their Vogue Intensive Summer Program to complete my portifolio as an anticipated Fashion Journalist and Visual Communications enthusiast. As I was balancing the course load between Statistics and Vogue, I found it extremely challenging to focus on both. I did not want to miss a week of studies, and neither did I want to be behind on my portifolio. It made me come to conclusion that I do not necessarily need the Statistics course since I will be focusing on entering the Conde Nast industry, which requires me to finish my English Literature and Language degree. Also, I came to realise that I can still continue to enroll in psychology courses, but will not need to finish the requirements considering that my interests have shifted.
I have considered dropping the course during the deadline, but I was too afraid to not accept the challenge and prove myself about my abilities. However, I have underestimated the effort and consistently of the Vogue Intensive course. It required my full attention from 9:00 to 5:00 PM minus after college hours workload, which resulted in my lack of focus, time management, and a healthy mental state. I have tried to balance sincerely and give each course its attention. However, I believe that my grade in the final will not reflect on my full potential since I did not give in my all. The final grade will definitely affect my academic standing, as well as my volunteering position next year as a Pear Learning Advisor in SASS and a Peer Academic Advisor in the Faculty of Arts and Science. I fear the consequences are too much to bare regarding the crucial outcomes I will get regarding my GPA.

I hope by dropping this course I can continue to aim on fulfilling a greater academic standing and refrain from any decisions that might affect it. I plan on contacting an academic counselor about my situation before enrolling in a course that might not be the beneficial for my case. Also, I may plan on considering to retake the course anytime before I graduate during the school year since I will be much more flexible to give the attention it deserves.
Thank you kindly for understanding,

I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience,
Hareer Al-Qaragolie
