Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Due to my mental health struggles with depression and my physical health struggles with scoliosis, I have not been able to function normally or preform normally. I have been struggling with my mental health for the past year, and thought I might be able to handle a short summer course at home. But the past two months, my depression and physical health have made it impossible to even get out of bed let alone do much school work. I understand that it is a students responsibility to watch for upcoming academic deadlines, but my depression and poor mental health has made it hard for me to care about the littlest things I used to enjoy and has made it hard to even find the motivation for daily basic functioning. Therefore, I was unable to drop the course by the deadline. I have been working with student health services with these issues from early on in the winter semester and have been trying to work through these issues. I understand all of my options about exam deferral, and have spoken to my professor Dr. Megan Norris, and we feel that due to these extenuating circumstances it would be best for me to drop the course and take some time to sort out my circumstances and in the future re-try the course. She has informed me that you are welcome to contact her as well in support of this appeal. In summary my continual physical and mental health struggles have made my learning in the summer semester impossible to accomplish given the fact that it greatly impairs my everyday functioning let alone studying. I am requesting this academic appeal to drop the course without academic penalty so that I can take a break and get the treatment I need in order to succeed in my future studies.
