Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Hello,
Due to extenuating circumstances that effected my academic performance, I am appealing to drop courses I did not pass this past academic year. Before entering my second year, my step father took his own life in my home, leaving me to find him. I tried to seek counseling immediately for the sever feelings of trauma, but I believe it was too soon and therefore ineffective. Although the counselor and my family advised me taking a lighter course load, I did not listen and thought it would be a good distraction. Due to what had happened, I lost sleep, motivation, and found myself not being able to focus like I once could. Once I had realized that my course load was too challenging, I was too far into the semester to stop. I decided to finish what I started and unfortunately, it was not enough.
I decided to retake Organic Chemistry over the summer. Once I came home from school, my mother decided to show me a letter she had received that stated my step father was under surveillance shortly before his death. This took a major impact on me and reopened a lot wounds I had healed. Again, this lead to a lack of focus, motivation, and sleep.
If I had the opportunity to drop these courses, I believe it would make a huge impact for me. This would give me the chance start fresh and put the time and effort into classes I enjoy while taking a course load that supports me academically and mentally.
Thank you for taking the time to read this appeal. I look forward to hearing from you.
Thank you,
Madison Bryer.
