RE: Appeal

After enrolling at Queen's, I quickly learned that my father had fallen ill, and I was a soon to be single parent of a new baby boy. I had several unexpected responsibilities during this time. My father's health continued to deteriorate, and it was my responsibility to care for him, as my sisters were out of province, and our mother had passed away. Coupling these new responsibilities with school and the mundane responsibilities of daily life, this quickly became overwhelming and my studies and other areas in my personal life suffered. My father's health eventually deteriorated and he is no longer with us. My son is now four, and I have a wonderful husband as a support. That being said, my circumstances now are quite different.

After several years of continuing to care for others, I feel I am now in a place where I can concentrate fully on my studies. Current events in my life are no longer so stressful and time consuming, and I've taken the time to ensure I am caring for myself and dealing with these issues (therapy & counselling). That being said, after speaking with an Academic Advisor, it was suggested an appeal form be submitted to remove the academic penalties associated with the courses I dropped during this time. A review also concluded the marks were primarily due to lack of submission.

I appreciate your consideration,
Caroline Lebreux-Jennings
