Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean (Studies),
I am appealing to drop MATH 121 (Fall/Winter 2017-2018) due to extenuating circumstances. Over the course of this past school year, I suffered from numerous health problems both mentally and physically, which were worsened by family problems. During the Christmas exam period, I suffered from a bad infection, resulting in numerous hospital visits and an inability to write any of my exams, including MATH 121. The winter term was unfortunately plagued with losses of both family and friends which subsequently impacted my mental health substantially. As a method of combatting this health decline I saw a counsellor and doctor here at Queen's. I was unable to write the first two exams of the April exam period due to my mental health. With regards to MATH 121, I did not complete either of the examinations and thus could not receive a mark for the course.
Under the guidance and support of Professor Abelson, I am appealing to drop this course late so I may reenrol and complete MATH 121 this year. To ensure success in this course, I will meet regularly with doctors and counsellors here at Queen's University. Additionally, I have reduced my course load, which will have a two-fold benefit of reducing my overall stress and allowing more time to be allocated to studying for this course. The combination of these strategies I believe will result in my ability to complete this course to the best of my abilities.
I deeply appreciate your consideration in reviewing my application for appeal.
Sincerely,
Jessica Hooper
