Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean (studies)

I am appealing to drop PSYC100 A/B 2017-2018 Fall/Winter

While studying for my final exam in April 2018, the course content that I was studying for hours on end was extremely triggering for my diagnosed Anxiety Disorder as well as my diagnosed depression. This trigger caused me to have a complete breakdown, and when I went to the exam hall, the proctor advised that I was not well to write the exam. Following this event, I was physically unable to speak for over 24 hours and took over a week to recover, from which I have still not fully recovered back to normal.

Following this event, I met with QSAS and was given accommodations for my last final exam and to have the PSYC100 exam deferred to September 7th.
I have been seeing a psychiatrist in the summer, as well as started seeing a counsellor at Queen¿¿s to help with my issues. But while trying to study for this exam again this summer it has once again been triggering me and has made my problems even worse once again.

For the future, I am currently on the waiting list for a psychiatrist, and I will be seeing a counsellor as often as possible to ensure I can get my problems under control. I am taking some online classes this semester to help reduce my anxiety in lecture halls as well as take some stress away.

I have been unable to submit this appeal until now due to financial reasons and not being able to pay for the appeal submission.
I am awaiting documentation from my former Psychiatrist in BC and my Family Doctor, but I was able to receive documentation from my Queen¿¿s medical help staff.

If I am unable to drop this course without academic penalty the impact on my GPA will be quite detrimental.

Thank you for considering my request,

Sincerely,
James Bennett
