Petition Letter

Petition Letter: To whom it may concern,

I am appealing to extend the deadline of the submitted IN grade in STAT 263, CLST 201, and ECON 243. Over the past few months I have been recovering from an assault that took place at the end of April 2018, which left me with severe post concussion syndrome and forced me to defer an exam that was taking place at the end of the winter term, as well as one that I had deferred from the fall term due to an unrelated issue. I had also previously submitted an appeal that was granted to extend my IN grade in ECON 243 until May 1st 2018, which was a date I was unable to meet due to the injuries sustained in the assault. I was not expecting to run into any issue with this process, but the healing timeframe of my injury ended up being much longer than initially expected, which lead me to the decision of writing my deferred exams in early September. At the beginning of this month, I also underwent an appeal process to appeal the requirement to withdraw for 1 year, which was declined, but I was informed that my situation could be reviewed after the grades for the classes previously mentioned had been submitted, so acquiring grade changes for these classes are extremely important to my continued success at Queens's. After speaking with my professors at the beginning of this month, I gained their understanding and support in this situation, and we decided I should appeal to ensure a seamless submission of a new grade, and upon a decision, write my exams. Moving forward, I will be hoping to return to my studies this school year, following successful completion of these exams, and will be enrolled in a lighter course load to ease myself back into everything, without stressing myself out following the injuries I sustained over the summer. In addition to this, I have been meeting with, and will continue to meet with an academic advisor, to help move forward with my academic goals at Queen's University. I am very motivated to get myself out of my current situation, and hope that upon a granted appeal, I am able to prove myself by achieving the grades I know I am capable of in the courses I had deferred due to injury.

Thanks for your consideration.
