Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Hello to whom I am addressing. I am writing today to submit my official appeal in order to add two additional courses to my current course load.

To begin, unfortunately my enrollment process was forced to be delayed extremely close to the final deadline to add courses.

My GPA standing from the 2017/2018 school year was misrepresented as my Global Development professor unknowingly forgot to mark two major assignments from the 2018 winter term. This pushed my GPA below the 0.7 cutoff meaning I was notified that I would have to take a 12-month leave of absence. I emailed the professor over the summer to rectify the situation and he responded soon after with an apology and assured me that he would mark my assignments and update my final mark. I waited for the updated mark to come through on Solus but it never did.

I arrived in Kingston in early September to sort out this matter in person so that I could begin organizing and planning for the upcoming school year. But unfortunately the day after I arrived, I had a grand mal seizure in the living room of my student house and was rushed to Kingston General Hospital. It was my second ever seizure but it left me in much worse condition than the first. My parents were away on vacation at the time, but luckily my sister was kind enough to drive up the next day to pick me up and drive me back down to my home in Toronto. I spent the better part of the next 9 days at Sunnybrook hospital, numerous neurology appointments as well as countless hours in dentist chair. The timing could not have been worse from enrollment standpoint aside from the numerous facial and mouth injuries from the seizure.

Once I felt healthy enough to return to Queen¿¿s and fix my academic standing it was one day prior to the course enrollment deadline. I tried my best to choose and enroll in courses that fit my academic plan but many of the classes that peaked my interested were already full or didn¿¿t fit into my schedule. This left me extremely frustrated as I wanted to get off to a running start this semester as I know I didn¿¿t come close to reaching my academic potential last year.

I am dying for another opportunity to have a successful school year while managing a full course load. Please let me know if there is anything else I can do to enroll into both HIST 122 and ARTF 275.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Sincerely,

Niall McConnell

Academic Plan

Academic Plan: I am well aware that this year my marks have to take a large step up. I have full confidence that I will be able to achieve this.

I have far less distractions this school year. Due to recent events regarding my health and medical standing, I can no longer consume alcohol or any recreational drugs. This means distractions outside of my academics at Queen¿¿s university have been minimized. I am now attending Queen¿¿s with only one thing in mind: to unlock my full academic potential.

I have a chip on my shoulder starting off this academic year and would love the opportunity to manage a full course load and achieve the grades that I know I am capable of.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Niall McConnell
