Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Salutations,
I am writing this letter to politely request enrollment in CISC 203 Discrete Mathematics for Computing II for the Fall term of 2018-2019. I am a second degree student in the Department of Computing expecting to graduate after this academic year. I completed a Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering here at Queen's in 2018. This is a required course for my program and is also a prerequisite course for CISC 235 in the Winter term which is also a required course. I was originally on the waitlist for this course and I was unable to enroll by the regular deadline due to class capacity.
I have confirmed with Ms. Karen Knight that there is one space now available in the course. I originally confirmed with Dr. David Lamb, undergraduate chair of the computing department, that I can enroll in the course if space is available. I was originally unable to enroll during the scheduled enrollment period during the summer as I did not have the prerequisite course CISC 102 Discrete Mathematics for Computing I. I had planned to take CISC 102 over the summer in the July-August term but I mistakenly dropped it. I do however have the necessary mathematical and statistical background to complete CISC 203, which is the reason Dr. Lamb approved my enrollment.
Therefore, I believe I am capable in completing in the course, even though it is a late enrollment. The details for this belief are outlined in my Academic Plan.
Thank you for your time,
Michael Y. Zuo

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: Salutations,
As I outlined in my introductory letter, I have a sufficient mathematical and statistical background due to my previous degree in Mechanical Engineering to complete CISC 203 Discrete Mathematics for Computing II. This is based on courses such as MATH 112 Linear Algebra and CISC 121 Introduction to Computing Science I.
Furthermore, I have attended the lectures for CISC 203 since the beginning of the Fall term expecting that I could enroll in it. As a result I believe I am caught up to the class lectures as of writing. There has only been one graded assessment in the intervening time, an in class quiz. I am also concurrently taking CISC 102 Discrete Mathematics for Computing I to review all the basic concepts and to make sure they are still fresh in mind.
From this, I am confident in my understanding of the core concepts taught so far. Therefore, I believe I am sufficiently capable of completing this course with a late enrollment.
Sincerely,
Michael Y. Zuo
