Dear Associate Dean (Studies),
I am appealing to request the removal of an ¿¿F from my transcript in STAT 263 (Fall, 2016).
Over the last three years, I have been experiencing both depression and severe anxiety. Although I have managed to maintain acceptable grades during this time, I suffered a debilitating increase in severity of the illness late in the Fall Term of 2016 that caused my physicians to arrange enrolment at a treatment centre for several months. I was unable to write the STAT 263 exam on December 14. I applied for and was granted an appeal to write at a later date but my recovery period did not permit meeting that requirement so I was unable to complete the course. As I was anticipating re-taking the course at a later date, I did not pursue the removal of the grade from my transcript. However, on the recommendation of academic advisors, I am enrolled presently in KNPE 251 to fulfil the statistics requirement for my undergraduate degree rather than re-taking STATS 263. This explains why I am now seeking to have this specific grade removed. As well, I should mention that the other courses in which I was enrolled in Fall 2016 did not require final exams during the exam period so were not impacted as directly as STAT 263 which required an exam worth 60 of the course marks.
I have invested considerable time, effort and finances to put in place strategies that enabled me to return to my studies in Fall 2017. I continue to see doctors regularly for the purposes of medication and therapy and, on their recommendation, I have withdrawn from a full course load to focus on my health. I am in contact with academic advisors in both the undergraduate program (Health Studies) and the Concurrent Education program who aid me in planning and setting goals to ensure completion of both degrees in a realistic and timely fashion.
It is my hope that you will consider my request for removal of STAT 263 on my transcript given these extenuating circumstances. Becoming an educator has been been my goal for many years and I want nothing more than to complete these degrees and move ahead to my chosen profession.
