Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Hello Dr. Bénard,
My name is Kathleen Waterston and I am appealing to re-add the course ARTH 260: Culture and Conflict to my course schedule. I am in my fourth year of my undergraduate studies in the Biology-Psychology Specialization. I dropped the course on Thursday, October 4 because I felt the need to drop a course due to my Research Mentorship project. My Research Mentorship project is a course that is a research project worth 6 units (Fall and Winter semester combined). However, my course load for this project is comparable to that of an Honours Thesis, which is 12 units in total (6 in the Fall and 6 in the Winter). I therefore wanted to drop a course in order to lighten my academic load. However, I made an error in which course I dropped and would like to re-add my ARTH 260 course. On Friday, October 5, I emailed the instructor of the course, Dr. Cathleen Hoeniger, requesting to be re-added. She informed me that I would need to appeal to re-add the course but she would support me being re-admitted.
I am currently enrolled in a biology course that I thought was required for my degree; however, the course is not required. I would have dropped my biology course in favour of the Art History course. I have thoroughly enjoyed my Art History course this semester and it has become one of my favourite courses of my university career thus far. This has been one of the only courses that I have taken as an elective, outside of courses involving biology and psychology, in my four years here at Queen¿¿s and I am extremely interested in the content. The course content is unlike any of the other material I have learned through the years and I find it to be a very stimulating course. I have not missed any lectures and I have received a 100 on the one assignment we have had due thus far. I intend on continuing to attend the weekly lectures and taking notes until a result for my appeal has been received. I plan on completing and submitting an assignment that I have due on Thursday, October 11 for the course. I have also discussed with Dr. Hoeniger about re-opening an online quiz on onQ for me to take if I am to be re-admitted to the course.
Thank you for any assistance you may provide and I look forward to hearing your response.
