Petition Letter
Petition Letter: I am appealing for an Independent Exchange to Charles University in my winter semester of 2019.
The ski resort Whistler is my home town. I have been surrounded by people from somewhere else all my life. Thanks to countless conversations on chair lifts, in forests, at lakes and in Whistler Village a travel bucket list that may be impossible to complete has been continually growing in my mind. I look forward to the opportunity of becoming someone from somewhere else.
I have been fortunate enough to travel to several different countries; however I have never had the experience of fully immersing myself into a culture. I enjoy meeting new people and experiencing new things, but I want to see what it¿¿s like to be somewhere different and feel like more than an outsider looking in. I want to understand a different culture in a way that one can only understand it by gaining perspective from inside that culture. I feel that an exchange program will give me a taste of what it¿¿s like to view a different culture from within and I hope it will be the beginning of my life long journey of exploring other cultures.
Specifically I am extremely interest in exploring my own family heritage. My grandfather Jiri Krasny and my Grandmother Elena Tumova both attended medical school at Charles University in the 1960¿¿s. My father¿¿s side of the family is from Praha and I want to immerse myself in Czech culture so that I can truly learn more about my roots. I have been accepted to the faculty of social sciences at Charles University and would love the opportunity to explore University in another city.

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: While away on independent exchange in winter semester of 2019 I plan on taking four courses because this will allow me to do well in my courses while still being able to explore a new city. I don't have a finalized list of classes that I plan on taking while away as Charles University has not posted them yet but after meeting with the Geography department head I was able to show him what last years classes that were offered and how they would be able to transfer back to Queens. Once back at Queens for my fourth year I will still be able to complete my required courses for a spring 2020 graduation.
