Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Dear associate Dean,
The main purpose of this letter is that I want to drop a course, but the deadline for dropping a course without an academic penalty has passed. During the late month of September, one of my uncle (My mom's sisters husband) has been hospitalized due to liver failure. On October the first, he passed away. He was really close to me, and it was a huge loss for our entire family. I left Kingston, and went to Toronto to see him and organize his funeral. I was emotionally affected, depressed and was not able to do anything. I wasn't able to concentrate on my studies, and without me noticing I started to miss my deadlines for major assignments and home works. Even though, I was going through a lot, I pushed myself to my extreme and studied whatever I could, and I managed to do good on most of my courses, except HLTH 230. In that course, I missed my midterm and assignments because I was in Toronto, but I still tried to catch up on this course. However, I realized that It was impossible for me to catch up, and I needed to drop this course. When I realized this, it was too late, the drop date for a course without an academic penalty has passed and here I am asking for your permission to drop this course without any academic penalty.

My dream is to be a doctor, I have put my best effort in all of my courses, but because of my uncle's death I wasn't able to concentrate or be as best as I could for this semester (especially in HLTH course). If I do not drop this course without an academic penalty, all the hard work that I have put in, even in the worst situation, would be wasted. I kindly ask you to review my case and provide me a solution that you think would fit me.

Thank you,
From
