Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: To whom this may concern,

My name is Basma Chabi, but my preferred name is Brie Basma Chabi. I am appealing in regards to having myself withdrawn from my CISC 102 class for the reasons stated below.

I have moved to Canada all the way from Qatar where I lived with my family and was very close. This was my first time living alone, and while I was very well and adjusted the first month, as time passed, my anxiety and stress levels have been at an all time high. If you could look at my academic records, you will realize that this matches my grades because they have started to steadily decrease.

I have lost focus in all my classes, and I do not eat anymore nor do I have the energy or drive anymore like I did when I first came here. I also do not sleep anymore, in fact I am writing this at 1am. Although I am a fighter and I believe nothing in life comes easy. I believe I can overcome the challenges for most of my classes except my CISC 102 class. The reason being is the content of this class is giving me major panic attacks and PTSD from my highschool years.

I have the potential to get an A+ easily in my CISC 102 class as I took the IB and the content is everything I did in my HL Math for IB. However, my IB years were the worst time of my life and it has driven me to insanity and potential life ending situations. (Please contact my highschool ACS Doha and refer to my counsellor for verification). I have been failing all my 102 classes because I happen to get a massive panic attack during each of the quizzes and I cannot help but cry as they take me back to a dark period of my life.

Therefore, while I do believe I can overcome the anxiety I have currently from my extreme homesickness for my other class. I believe I am not ready mentally to go further with my CISC 102 class and I would like to do it for next term after I become mentally prepared during the winter break where I go back home and I will be able to talk to my highschool teachers and access resources back home in order to overcome this paranoia that has stemmed from the IB. If I have massive panic attacks from the quizzes, I could not imagine what would happen to me during the 3 hour final.

If possible, you could also contact my family regarding this situation as well as my school as they have been aware of this issue. I will definitely bounce back for my other courses but I cannot see myself continuing my CISC 102 classes. I have tried my best but it's not good for me mentally.
