Petition Letter

Petition Letter: To whom it may concern,

Unfortunately I had to drop the course ENIN 200 after the deadline. I had a rough start to the year as I got very sick (just with the flu) fairly early into the semester and could hardly get out of bed for a couple of days. This caused me to fall behind in almost all my courses. Just as I was getting over the cold and finally catching up my dog died which hit me very hard as Ive had him for most of my life and I was very attached to him. I went home to Toronto for a couple of days to get him cremated and such which ultimately resulted in me falling even further behind. On top of all of that I suffer from anxiety and depression which already makes everyday life a little harder. That being said, I had been managing in very well recently but with the added stress and sadness, it made it very hard to be motivated and keep up.

I was taking 6 courses this semester because I failed a course last year and have to recover the credits so I took ENIN 200; an online course because I was interested in it and I felt online would make my semester more manageable due to the extra course load. This did not work out for me as this course turned out to be one of my heaviest workloads. As it is online, it also made it easier to forget about the assignments and the course it self and with all the pressure I was under, I was unable to keep up. Initially I fell behind in a few minor assignments and quizzes and gradually those added up to a lot of my mark, then I missed more important ones and by the time I had realized how much of my mark I had missed, the deadline had passed and I could not make catching up on everything a priority as I was still recovering in my other courses. I emailed the professor and understood and had no problems with me dropping the course.

I understand that I should of made it a priority to drop it before the deadline but I felt like I was in fog and it was never fully present. I thought I could handle the extra course and I believe that if I had had a better start to the year or hadn't lost my dog I would of been able to be on top of things. Im hoping that due to these circumstances I could be considered for waiving the financial penalty.
Thanks in advance for your consideration.

Sincerely,
Sarah Elliott.
