Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: The intent of this appeal is to drop CLST 200. Since the beginning of the semester, I have been continually challenged by the course. As the semester progressed, I have been more willing to drop the course. After completing the first assessment, I did poorly, and I knew that the course must be dropped.
In preparation of the course drop, I made sure to know the location, time, and date to drop. I was ready to drop the course, and I knew it had to be done.
However, the date of the course drop, I was very ill. I had been ill for a few days prior, but the sickness was at its height during the date I was planning to drop the course, before the deadline. Prior to the date which I had intended to drop the course, I had no idea this would occur.
I had a severe sinus infection, which caused myself to have major headaches, lack of vision due to much pressure behind my eyes, and an irritated nose. I had never had such pains from an illness to this degree, and it was very irritable.
With this infection, I could not perform normally. I could not get myself to attend class, complete regular homework, or socialize with others. The only thing I could do was sleep and let time play its part. During this time period, I was not acting like myself. My sleep schedule was totally transformed, as I began to sleep much more frequently, and at unorthodox times.
On the date of the drop deadline, my illness caused me to sleep through the course drop process. The time frame occurred from the middle of the afternoon until late at night, when the window already closed. If I were not ill, I would have dropped the course without any problems within the designated time frame.
As a student on academic probation, my grades this year are incredibly important. As it stands, continuing with this credit would be detrimental to my overall GPA, and would create obstacles in the future. I could not imagine what my course grade would look like if I continued with this course.
By no means is my willingness to drop the course a result from recent assessments. Like I said before, I had intended to drop the course since the very beginning, and intended on doing so on the date of the drop deadline.
I ask for your understanding with my situation. I clearly planned to drop CLST 200 before the drop deadline. However, my unforeseen illness prevented me from doing so. I would appreciate it very much for this course to be dropped. With exams fast approaching, I would like to hear back soon. Thank you.
