Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean (Studies),

I am appealing to drop the following courses for the Fall 2018 term, CISC 260 and CISC 220.

My health has always been a matter of great significance for me due to the health issues I unfortunately have had to face. The fluctuating symptoms of my chronic illness have caused considerable difficulties in both my personal and academic life. Due to the symptoms of my illness and subsequent health complications, I was unable to function properly during the term, and my academic performance and progress were adversely affected. I faced difficulties performing tasks pertinent to coursework, concentrating, and travelling to classes. As a result, I was unable to perform properly, and this proved detrimental to my academic performance during the recent term. I sought assistance from healthcare professionals and attempted to acquire accommodation(s) to help me during the term in order to improve my health and the overall circumstances. However, these measures were rather ineffective due to the nature, severity, and occurrence of my health issues. Furthermore, I have had to endure the loss of many loved ones during this year, most recently my beloved grandfather who passed away last month. My grandfather¿¿s passing was especially devastating for my family and I due to his endearing presence and strong role within our family. Consequently, as the oldest grandson, I had to assist and console my family whilst simultaneously tackling my own grief, which made it very hard to focus on my personal and academic matters. Unfortunately, due to cultural differences, there is no practice of formal documentation and lack of paperwork that I could provide. However, I feel you will agree with me that for anyone to fabricate such a tragic event is not only inappropriate but also immensely deplorable. I hope you can understand my situation and I apologize if I cause you any inconvenience.

In terms of the future, I wholeheartedly aim to improve my situation both health-wise and academically. To combat my health issues and determine steps to recuperate, I continue to seek assistance and treatment from medical professionals. Academically speaking, reducing my course load, being more mindful of key dates, and shifting focus primarily towards the core curriculum are some of the strategies I have considered to alleviate academic stress. Furthermore, I intend to seek academic counselling to establish an effective plan towards making and maintaining academic progress. By implementing these measures, I hope to prevent further risk to my health and education, consequently contributing to a more prosperous university experience at Queen's. Thank you so much for your time and I eagerly await your decision.
