Petition Letter: I am bringing this appeal to request permission to drop GNDS120, a course in which I was enrolled in the Fall 2017 semester, past the academic deadline.
I suffered a significant trauma on campus during 2017 Homecoming when I was a first-year Queen¿¿s student. As a consequence, I experienced significant social, emotional, and academic difficulties, and required psychiatric support as well as support from the Queens Violence and Response Coordinator.
As a result of these difficulties, I dropped all of my other 2017 courses, which were all full-year courses; but I could not drop GNDS120, because it is a half-year course, and it was past the drop deadline for it. As a result, I tried to complete the course, and did, in fact, complete some of the coursework, but I was unable to complete several assessments.
While I still suffer some lingering emotional difficulty as a result of the trauma I mentioned above and continue to see my health care professional on a regular basis, I have returned to full-time academic studies at Queen¿¿s this year. Until very recently, I was unable to deal with the process of asking for a waiver of the deadline for dropping this course. I am bringing this appeal now to drop GNDS120, and have my failing grade in GNDS120 removed from my academic record.
