Petition Letter: Associate Dean (Studies),
I am appealing to drop SOCY 363 after the drop date for the fall semester 2018.
This semester I have found myself struggling more then usual with my major depressive disorder which has prevented me from attending class regularly and made my course-load too much to bare at present. Mid way through November I decided I needed to reduce my course-load. Since SOCY 363, with its high participation grade, was the most affected by my condition it was the course I decided to stop attending completely as well as submitting assignments in order to focus on my remaining classes. As a result, I have received a failing grade in the course.
In order to prevent this type of situation from occurring again, I have spoken with student wellness services and counselling services. They are helping me acquire long-term support. I am also in the process of registering with Queen¿¿s Student Accessibility Services. Furthermore, I will be speaking with academic advisors before enrolling for courses to ensure that I do not enrol in classes with high participation requirements seeing as I cannot ensure my attendance until I am in a better position mentally.
Please find attached supporting documentation confirming my condition as well as my request to register with QSAS.
Thank you for your attention and consideration in this matter,
Marie Marchand
