Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Associate Dean (Studies),
I am writing because I seek to appeal for an extension of an incomplete grade for two courses (DEVS 411 and DEVS 492) past the one term deadline to appeal. From the summer of 2017 to the fall of 2018 I experienced significant health issues which prevented me from completing coursework, and which also prevented me from appealing for an extension of my incomplete grades before the one term deadline passed. My health issues frequently prevented me from attending classes and completing course work during this time. During my Fall 2017 semester, I either dropped or failed many of my classes; I received an incomplete grade for two classes, and I was only able to pass one class. During my Winter 2018 semester I was able to pass three classes; however, course deadlines for DEVS 492 (¿¿Exploring Development¿) coincided with times over the term that I was unwell, and I was not stable enough to complete outstanding work from DEVS 411 to resolve my incomplete grade in that class. I was granted an incomplete grade for DEVS 492 at the end of the winter term. During the summer of 2018 I continued to struggle with my health, and I failed to complete outstanding work to resolve my incomplete grade for DEVS 492. My health did not improve and stabilize enough to allow me to engage in this process until November of 2018.
In the fall of 2018, I met with my physician to address my continued health problems, and he introduced a new medication to my treatment plan. When I visited my physician for follow up on November 27th, I was feeling better and requested documentation from him to submit this appeal. My health has stabilized, and I feel more healthy and competent now, with the introduction of this new treatment, than I have since I first began seeking treatment for this condition in 2014. I have spoken with Paritosh Kumar, the professor for both of these incomplete classes, and he has agreed to accept my outstanding work if my appeal is approved.
I would appreciate your consideration of the unfortunate circumstances I have faced over the past academic year and their impact on my academic performance.
Thank you,
Sarah Kennedy
