Dear Dr. Stephenson,
Request:
Due to extenuating circumstances, more specifically intense bouts of depression and anxiety which required clinical diagnosis and medication to rectify, I am applying for an Aegrotat: Estimated Standing in the course HIST ¿¿ 241 Global History of Pandemics.
Explanation:
During the previous semester I experienced cycles of depression and anxiety unparalleled in directly incapacitating my academic and personal lives. I was happily going to fail out of school and return home due to the severe frailty of my mental state. Upon several conversations with my Doctor whom assured me over the break we could work towards a solution in terms of legitimate diagnosis and the possibility of medication in order to remedy the situation, I was driven to complete my examinations and final assignments in all classes. Over the break I have since been placed on medication in order to stabilize my state, have been scheduled for a full psychological evaluation with a psychologist because physicians cannot be sure of the full extent of the condition, and have been written a recommendation for academic accommodation by said physician.
In regards to this appeal I have completed the required 60 of the course in order to be eligible for Aegrotat Standing. I have also completed the two outstanding assignments worth the remaining 40 of the course and subsequently sent them to the instructor on December 31st with the appropriate medical documentation in hopes that the Final Grade could be altered. I have yet to hear from her and do not expect to as the submission came long after the completion of said course.
The basis for this appeal is the fact that these overwhelming feelings were triggered by numerous traumatic events that have recently occurred coupled with some outstanding issues of historic reoccurrence. I was bedridden and immobile; unable to eat, socialize, move, and even be awake during the period before being placed on the medication. I am confident that with a combination of psycho-therapy, medication, and an accommodation education plan I will be able to thrive in my new head space.
