Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Hello, I am appealing for re-grade of Econ320 Final Exam.
I contacted with my professor Blair Long on the first day of semester to view my exam and he told that he does not teach any more then direct my exam paper to Jennie Ball. After that I made an appointment with Mrs. Ball on Jan8 and viewed my exam but still have problem on the exam. Then Mrs. Ball gave me an informal re-read for exam but grade was unchanged, and I noticed this on Jan18. And I found Dr. Cromb at the same day with a short talking then I came to his office on Jan21 with a deep conversation and let him know I will do the formal appeal.
For exam questions, the department did not provide me any answers for exam and there are no any feedbacks on the answer sheet. The exam has partA(short answer) and partB(long answer), but only indicate the total mark of each part and does not indicate the mark for each question under the part. Like I mentioned the professor are not available to communicate, but I will try my best to explain all my question here.
Part A questions:
A1: It is a question from assignment, the correct choice is TRUE and my answer wrote on the sheet is also TRUE. For explanation, I mentioned the negative supply shock cause output fall and inflation rise, which shows on lecture note(asad1 page 8). I drew a graph and further explained of slope of AD, I will not point out all the detail of my answer in this letter for saving word but will indicate the most important part which I think I should get mark of it.
A2: Is a question we did on Assignment4(A4-Q4), I did a really good review before the exam. I wrote like the sample answer for the question and I do not think I got a fair mark of this.
A3: The professor could not provide me with the answer or indicate what I did wrong in this question. However, I expressed the SR Phillips curve model, and use sentences and graph to describe the relationship between inflation and unemployment which related to this question. I think the mark I got in this question is unfair and too low.
A4: No question for this and not have to be re-mark.
A5: It is a summarizing question. I summarize what I learn from lecture and book and provided an example; I do not think the mark I got is fair to me. (The lecture slides only highlight some main point of this concept but I wrote what I learn from book and other resources)
A6: I used the graph and indicate the shifting of curve to support my answer. I guess I might lose some mark if the answer must be proved by an equation, but I think the mark I got is too low because I think my answer is correct. The mark I got looks like I did this completely wrong.
PartB questions:
B1: Same question on Assignment4 we did. My answer is similar to the sample answer and clear steps and logic. All answer was correct and I lost half mark of the question with no reason.
B2: The question does not show how many mark is worth for each question and no feedbacks, it is hard for me to say whether the professor mark correctly or fairly. It look similar we did in review class, so I know the main body of the question must be correct.
Please re-grade question A1,A2,A3,A5,A6,B1,B2.
Overall, thank you for viewing my letter, it looks crazy to ask re-grade most part of exam. However, this decision was made after deep thinking and after checking lecture notes to support my answers. I did have conversation with my professor Blair Long, and Mrs.Ball and undergraduate chair Dr.Cromb before I wrote this letter. And the informal appeal has been done before this formal appeal. I put a huge effort into this course and the mark is very important for me to enroll in program.
The Aer&Sci office told me do not have to attach document in this case, but I provide some lecture note to help you easy to find the things correlating to the exam. And please let me know if you need me provide any more things for this.
