Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: Since first year I have had some significant psychological and physiological health concerns and last year my second term I had to drop due to being admitted to inpatient treatment for Anorexia Nervosa. I was diagnosed in my second year and waited nearly 6 months to get admitted to Credit Valley Hospital in Mississauga. I was unable to take treatment here as Hotel Dieu and KGH eating disorder treatment programs are specialized to help treat those whose ED is not as severe or in remission. (BMI of at least 17 for approval.) Before being admitted in March of 2018, even the most small task took all my energy and in combination with the necessary medications I took daily, I was more often than not in a state of pharmaceutical intoxication, all I could do was sleep. My inpatient stay was shy of three weeks but was intense day to night classes and rehabilitation. After my discharge from Credit Valley in mid April I had a bit of a break before i started classes again and once classes started, my progress health wise and academic wise started deteriorating again. I was in the progress of a medication change and outpatient treatment at Hotel Dieu but my ED and mental health did not adjust well to being discharged so early. (From credit valley) My mother in addition voiced her concerns on my discharge date and was very strongly against it; as was I (I knew I needed more inpatient treatment) they discharged me anyway due to a bed shortage and the fact that i was no longer in critical life threatening condition. She actually went to the extent of sending a complaint to out the MP discussing the fact of my discharge. I was strongly advised to stay in Mississauga by my ED psychiatrist at Credit Valley and to continue day patient treatment for the remaining 4 months, but with shy of 4 days notice, I was unable to find any decent or accessible accommodations. So, i came back to kingston to try and focus on school again.(I had to be near the hospital) Since then everyday has been a battle but I am doing my best and am in counselling for my anxiety, depression, and Anorexia. I want to finish my degree strong, and I know due to the circumstances that it may take me more than 4 years, but my goal is to get a degree a PhD. in psychology and I will do anything to obtain that goal.
