Petition Letter: I am appealing for a late course drop for Chem 281, as I failed the course due to my mental illness. I was sexually assaulted in December of 2017, and as a result of this, I was quickly diagnosed with major depression. During the course of the past year, my mental health has deteriorated significantly, because of which, my academics have suffered. My depression has caused me to lose the motivation I had in my first semester of my first year, which resulted in my lack of concentration, motivation, and will to live. I believe my failing grade in this course was not a reflection of what I'm capable of doing, but a reflection of my inability to cope with my academic workload and my mental illness.
