Petition Letter: Dear Dr. Stephenson,
Unfortunately, I am writing to you to request to drop GPHY 101 from my academic curriculum for this semester.¿
I have been increasingly overwhelmed by stress and anxiety to a level which I have never experienced, and I feel very vulnerable to having a disastrous academic term.¿Throughout the winter semester, I have had increasingly severe issues regarding my anxiety and stress. I had previously never experienced anxiety issues to this extent and I struggled throughout the past few months as I became increasingly overwhelmed with my workload. I am sleep deprived, unable to focus, underperforming across many courses, and I feel that I must to reduce my workload in order to salvage the remainder of this academic semester.
I am a second-year commerce student, and my commerce courses alone are causing serious stress and anxiety. I have put a significant amount of work into trying to deal with my situation, however¿I have decided that given my ongoing state of feeling extremely overwhelmed by my course load, my best option is to drop GPHY 101 in order to alleviate my stress level and ensure I can excel in my mandatory courses through to exams.¿
My anxiety has especially hindered my performance in GPHY 101. I had thought that using a personal interest credit would be a good way of allowing me to pursue this course which I have always thought to be very intriguing. I thought this strategy would allow me to allocate more time to my mandatory courses which I was also falling behind in. I have realized that I have been spreading myself too thin and my workload is negatively affecting my mental health. In order to succeed in my mandatory courses as well as avoid the option of having to enroll in an extra semester after my planned graduation date it is necessary to drop GPHY 101.¿
I am disappointed to drop GPHY 101 however I feel I have no other option due to the severe anxiety and stress of my current course load.¿I certainly regret not having the ability to finish the course, and I hope you understand.¿I would be pleased to meet with you in person to answer any questions that you may have.
Sincerely,
Matt
