Petition Letter: To whom it may concern,
I am writing this letter to appeal dropping CISC271, Linear Data Analytics, a course I am currently enrolled in. Dropping this course would be beneficial to my academic standing and mental well-being. The reason for dropping this course is because of immense emotional strain I have been struggling with since before the start of this school year.
In particular, two events that occurred over the time between the end of summer and beginning of the school year have taken their toll on my mental health, which in turn has taken its toll on my education. I am still grieving, as both matters concern loss. Around the time of reading break, mid-February to early March, my mental state was at its worst. I have only very recently been able to start counselling to help get through this process. I have gone through Queen's Student Wellness Services, attending a session with Allison LaVigne. At our first session, we discussed these events and came to the conclusion that dropping the course would be best for me. The stress added is damaging to my recovery, especially now that I am going into exams. Allison and I are continuing these sessions until the end of the year and will continue into the next year. Over the summer, Allison will be referring me to a counselor near my permanent residence, as I will not be in Kingston.
Given the circumstances, I am hoping you see that dropping this course would benefit me. I do not want events that have already caused so much turmoil this year to affect my future as well.
