Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean Dr. Stephenson,

I write to you today to request a complete withdraw from my program (Bachelor of Arts) at Queen¿¿s University effective immediately. I am currently being treated for mental health including anxiety and depression, and my psychiatrist has recommended this course of action.

Mental health issues began towards the end of last year, and the degree to which it has affected my academics has only increased since then. I consulted my Don Sydney Berman and Assistant Residence Life Coordinator Steve Zantingh earlier this year, but I simply did not feel as though my condition was improving despite the various options of support they gave me. Seeing as my grades were only worsening with time by my mental state, I ultimately made the decision to head back home to Vancouver in early March on recommendation of my psychiatrist. I intended on returning to Queen¿¿s before the beginning of April to continue my studies, but with how things have panned out, it looks not to be.

While my time at Queen¿¿s was academically and intellectually valuable, given my current condition, I cannot foresee when, or even if I will be returning to Queen¿¿s University. At this point in my life, I need to dedicate all my attention to my health. I understand that, should I decide to return, I will have to reapply as a new student.

Please find attached a scan of a note from my psychiatrist, Dr. Scott, attesting my situation.

Thank you for taking the time to consider this request.

Sincerely,

Xi Long Xu
