Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: I am applying to have ECON 290, ECON 241 and ASTR 101 (all fall) dropped from my transcript. The reason for this was due to an extenuating circumstance that began and ended in the summer however came back starting in October of this past fall term and lasted until the break and were very serious and I was not able to attend most classes and did not write the final exams because I was home in Toronto. To deal with these extenuating circumstances I attended counselling over the break to get better and it did help. I was also able to relax with my family and changed my mindset on the extenuating circumstances that I was going through which helped a lot. Should my appeal be granted I will make sure to stay on top of my work and if an issue arises again (which it shouldn¿¿t) I will make sure to let the academic office know about it immediately so that they are able to help me in the easiest way possible. For both the economic courses I was not able to make the final exams however, for ASTR 101 I thought I had dropped the course at the start of the semester and did not do any of the course work due to the fact that I thought I was no longer enrolled in it. Although this year has been a tough year for me and my family I believe that the end of this year and next year will be significantly better and I do believe that I am able to complete courses in a timely manner and with good grades. I will also plan to retake both the economics courses that I am asking to drop for now next year if I can fit them into my course load. The documents to support this appeal are already in my file in the arts and science office.
