Petition Letter
Petition Letter: I am writing this letter of appeal to drop all five courses in the 2018 fall term. Since the beginning of the second year in 2017 fall my family has been going through a severe level of changes that have influenced me drastically regarding my academic standings. My father was caught being unfaithful and has been raising two other children outside of marriage that no one was aware of until then. My mother has also lost all financial support from my father making it very hard for both of us. Financially, I was well supported by my father since I was little so this change is also very drastic for me to undergo with my mother.
I am now relying on OSAP to pay for my tuitions. Lawyers, family members, friends, and companies were all involved because of my family issues. This has significantly caused me to question everything around me and fell into depression for two years. I visited campus councilors about this matter at the time of fall 2017 and was later prescribed with antidepressant pills by a specialist. I was being treated until the summer in 2018, and both the doctors and I thought that I was getting better and is not required to see a specialist daily anymore. At the beginning of third-year university when my father thought everything has finally settled down, he has asked me to acknowledge the other two children and see them as siblings. This triggered everything and made it worse than before regarding my psychological illness. I refused to see any doctor since I thought no one would be able to help me back then. I was not able to do anything as well as taking care of my school work. I was not present in any of my classes and couldn¿¿t bring myself to submit any appeals in time. The only way that would get me out of bed at the beginning of this year was to write my diary, to talk to myself and hope something makes sense out of it. My depression has gotten better since the last time my mother visited me from China which was in January. That is also when I could finally pick up myself to call someone for help and start working on any academic studying. The second term of this year has been better than before with the help of all my professors.
I would appreciate the information I share is confidential between the school and me since both of my parents are not within the country and my mother knows nothing about what my father has proposed.
I would also be grateful if there is any chance that I might be able to retake ARTH 214, LING 100, LLCU 111, ARTH 215 and not have seen the original failing grade on my transcript. All these courses were taken within the time of my family problems. If not, is it possible for the school to reopen these classes for me so I can enroll some of them in the summer and retake them so I can start catching up with my GPA since it has now dropped below 1.60 with a full half-year counting as failing grades
On my solus under the summer term of 2018, I was also enrolled in ARTH 120 and LAW 201 which were two classes that I have taken before. I do not remember enrolling in any courses that summer however they appeared in my solus as failed for the 2018 summer term. I would need to ask the faculty to retake any courses since they were not allowed to be enrolled at that time and there is no record of me sending any information or emails to professors asking to retake these two courses. I am wondering if it has been a glitch on Solus or what else it could be. I have also emailed ITS in October about another course ARTH 210 that showed up in my Solus course schedule for 2019 winter term. I asked why this course was within my course list when it did not appear anywhere on my OnQ course list. ITS told me that this course does not exist on OnQ and that it might be a glitch from my older courses; however, it is still showing in my course list and even on my exam schedule. I don't know what to do about this situation either.
With my current grades and everything that is going on, I am also baffled about what is my next step and what is waiting for me. I have already wasted and made my first half of university GPA a mess; is there still a way for me to fix it now that I am physically and mentally better Or, has it gone to a level that there is nothing I can do about I don¿¿t know whom to talk to or if I can talk to anyone about this. I am more than embarrassed to be writing this email since I was never the failing student in the class.
Thank you for reading this letter, and I hope to hear back from the school council soon regarding any information.
