Petition Letter: Hello,

I would like to appeal and request a CR for CISC 271, which I just completed in the Winter 2019 semester with Professor Randy Ellis. I believe that the final grade that I received is not an accurate reflection of my ability due to unforeseen extenuating circumstances that occurred throughout the semester. I understand that CR is usually considered when the grade received was C or lower, but as I've previously demonstrated throughout my transcript, I truly believe that I am able to perform much better than I have demonstrated. I reached out a number of times for additional work or extra credit consideration in the course, but as I did so retroactively, I was unable to further show my capability, though I definitely should have requested accommodations throughout the semester instead of afterward.

Throughout the semester, I had to return to my hometown, Ottawa, many times, as my father had been having many health problems. He had been under a lot of stress, but still going to work, as my mother had retired the year before due to vertigo, anxiety, and stress. This worsened throughout the second half of the semester, and my father had to visit the emergency room and undergo immediate surgery for his heart. Since then, he's visited many doctors and been put on official medical leave for disability since March.

This has impacted my schoolwork, as I have spent a lot of time at home, spending time with my parents and helping out with groceries and routine visits to the doctor. My father still continues to have numerous appointments every day visiting different healthcare professionals and is currently in cardiac rehabilitation. I believe that I have not been able to focus as much on my schoolwork as I would have liked due to this and feel like my resulting grades were not an accurate reflection of my ability.
