Dear Dean,
I am appealing to opt out of GPHY 101(fall term course 2014). I would like to drop this course because, since being in this course I have not been had the best time. I did not drop out of the class earlier because I thought that the last day to drop a course was during the first two weeks of school. I later found out on October 31th that it was the last day to drop a course, but I was relentless because I felt as if I would be giving up and admitting defeat in the face of my academics which I never do. Since then, I have not been able to follow lectures nor have I been able to keep up with assignments, due to the fact that my preliminary marks and lack of understanding of the primary lectures have left me feeling anxious and melancholy the rest of this semester. This has caused me to stress myself out trying to catch up with weekly reading, spending way too much time on assignments (and having trouble completing them), and still not being able to obtain any information that would help me be successful in this course. All of this has begun to affect my grades in other courses, and this I cannot let happen.
I have tried reaching out to other students in the course, meeting with people that took the course last year that were willing to help, talking to my TA Rachel Herron about helping me find the root to the problem of why I'm not understanding, and even getting extensions on assignments. Nothing has seemed to be working out. All the extra time spent on geography has taken a tremendous amount of time that is much needed as said before, for my other four course this term. The constant trying to understand and get through the geography work, while staying on top of my other courses has caused me so much anxiety ¿¿ which has made it hard to focus in class¿¿ and has resulted in all my marks suffering as well as me missing a lot more sleep then I should be.
For future references, I plan on being more aware of course drop and add dates to avoid these kinds of situation. Also, I plan on taking summer courses to make up for any lost credit that might stem from this issue.
Sincerely,
Derleesha Green
