In January of 2019, I was diagnosed with an anxiety disorder by my family doctor in Niagara Falls. Over the course of the 1st semester, I was having difficulty managing my symptoms of panic, worry, and fear which also comes with extreme fatigue and mood swings. These symptoms made it difficult for me to attend some of my lectures and labs which influenced my marks. I felt that my grades would have been much higher if I did not have this overwhelming health issue in which I had no control of.
In January of 2019, I met with my family doctor who started me on a treatment plan. Unfortunately, the medication did not take effect immediately and had some negative side effects. I found the 5 courses in the winter term of 2019 to be extremely challenging with multiple bell ringers, 20 midterms, lectures, labs, multiple assignments and final exams. This was a learning experience for me in terms of managing this level of anatomy, physiology and biomechanics in one term which was all preselected by the faculty. This past semester was debilitating for me in my current level of health.
To create enough time to study for the other mid terms that I had, I made the decision to defer my physiology midterms to my final and have it weighted at 75 of my grade. Unfortunately, I received a 43 on the final which resulted in an F. If I would have foreseen this I would have dropped the course before the deadline to do so. Moving forward into the next two years in this program, I have arranged my course load appropriately to accommodate for the subjects that may require some extra time and will be taking more courses online in the fall/winter and over the summer. The other 4 courses that received grades below a C, I felt that if I had been in a healthy state, I would have achieved a higher grade. With KNPE 254 I was not able to complete 2 labs, which resulted in a zero. I would like to ask if these 2 labs can be omitted through the AG appeal process.
I am a bright student and have always received high 80¿¿s and low 90¿¿s in high school. I have never failed a class prior to this semester. I have plans to attend graduate school and don¿¿t want these marks to create a barrier for me and my career aspirations. I have recently submitted an accommodations form to the University by my family doctor which verifies my condition.
