Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Dear Associate Deans (Studies),

I am appealing for Credit standing ECON 112 (Winter, 2019) and in FREN 150(Winter, 2019), and to drop SOCY 122 (Fall/Winter, 2018/2019), and POLS 101 (Winter, 2019).

My situation started around the end of the first term, and progressively got worse throughout the second. During the break after the first term I would struggle to wake up at 2 pm. Through the second term my circumstances got much more severe and I was, on average, waking up around 6 pm, with 8 pm being the latest I¿¿ve woken up. My sleep schedule was probably the thing that impacted my situation the most, due to stress and anxiety as well as my circumstance. Due to my sleeping schedule being so extreme, I would try to fight fire with fire and not to go to sleep at all, trying to stay awake until around 7 in hopes of fixing it. This method clearly isn¿¿t healthy, and many times I simply wouldn¿¿t be able to stay awake, giving in to have a nap, my schedule remaining unimpacted. Due to this sleep schedule I rarely went to any of my classes, and I also lost at least 10 pounds, as I was at most eating twice a day, (Due to me being awake when things were closed, I would try to have my first meal at Leonard around 6:30/7, and then go to Location 21 for my second around 12 or 1, or order something.)

Due to me being unable to break the cycle, my academics were hurt, as I wasn¿¿t able to go to class, I couldn¿¿t successfully keep track of things such as assignments, and I wasn¿¿t getting critical spoken information from lectures or tutorials. During Winter Final exams, I did my French exam not going to sleep the night before. I missed my Sociology exam because I could not stay awake after my alarm went off, and I purposefully missed the Politics exam because I simply was not prepared. I even made an appointment with Student Services but cancelled it because I was too tired to make it. (I know now that it¿¿s not recommended to take exams when you are appealing after having 2 meetings with academic counselors)

As my parents don¿¿t live in Canada, I have had to wait to get necessary appointments, however I have seen my Doctor and have sent him the Off-Campus Physician¿¿s note. I will also be meeting with a Psychologist that he referred me to sometime in the new few weeks. I am currently doing much better (eating regularly, proper sleep schedule), and will be using the Student Services when I return for second year so I can do the best I can. (Academic advisors, Counselling services)
