Petition Letter: My name is Syed Mehdi and I am a student in the POLS 396 fall course with Mr Andrew Grant.
This year the holy month of Muharram fell on during the months of October and November and during this period one of the most important days of this month, the day of Ashura fell on October 31st.
The month of Muharram is extremely sacred to Shia Muslims like myself as it is a period of deep mourning. Due to this, I had to travel to Toronto to be with family during the first two weeks of November thus making it extremely hard for me to complete my assignment on time, which was due on the 13th of November.
As a result I was unable to submit the assignment in time and if I had done so, would have received a very bad grade based on the late penalty and the fact that even if I submitted a high quality assignment, the overall grade would be fairly poor.Since this assignment accounted for 40 percent of my total course grade, it would have severely reduced by overall grade for the course. This would be extremely detrimental to my overall GPA, which I would not want to be affected by something that I did not have control over.
I have spoken to my professor of the course, Dr. Andrew Grant, and he supports and agrees with me that the best course of action would be to drop the course.
Thank you very much for your help and understanding,
Kind Regards,
Syed Shaan-e-Ali Mehdi
