Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Hello,

I am looking to appeal the drop deadline for my ART253 course in the fall term. Although I am greatly interested in the subject and enjoyed the class, I mishandled my final assignments due to personal mental health issues. As a result, I was understandably not allowed to correct the mistakes I made, and will receive a failing grade. Due to the increase in assignments in the last week of November, and my past history with mental health, I was overstressed in the days leading up to the deadline. Coupled with some external factors relating to my family, I was disorganized and did not keep track of whether or not my assignments had reached my professor or whether I had taken the proper steps to reschedule a test. However, despite my mistakes, I believe that I have managed the workload of my other classes well enough that it is apparent that my mark in this course is an anomaly rather than a norm. I would like to drop this course because it was a mistake that was not due to lack of interest or effort, and I will be making a greater effort in the future to remedy my personal issues, since they continue to have an impact on my studies. I am currently scheduling appointments to see a councillor when I am home over the Christmas break, and in the next semester I plan on using the Student Services provided to ensure that this does not happen in the future. I am not asking for a review of my grades or for any kind of lenience in regards to the lateness of my final assignment, simply that I be allowed to have this mistake struck from my academic record so that I may not be hindered in my studies continuing at Queens.

Thank you,
Miranda Ramnares
