Petition Letter
Petition Letter: I hope you are doing well, I am writing to appeal the letter I received requiring me to withdraw from the Faculty of Arts and Science. I understand that my cumulative GPA was not up to a satisfactory standard but certain circumstances that I experienced during the school year deeply affected and inhibited my ability to participate in classes fully and to perform to the best of my ability.
Roughly 8 weeks into my second term while I was out at a bar, I was involved in an altercation with some Kingston locals through no fault of mine, I am not sure as to what lead to the start of altercation but as it continued racial slurs were used. I deemed myself physically fine from the altercation, but despite being physically fine from the incident, my mental state was affected as I felt ashamed and traumatized about the situation. I found it hard to walk around campus safely knowing an occurrence like this had happened so close to where I live and my school campus, due to this I missed class and was distracted from my courses. Also being concealed from racism for the majority of my life I was ill equipped to deal with this incident I felt overwhelmed and was not sure who I could talk too about a racial issue like this. I was unaware of what actions I should have taken and due to this kept the issue to myself which I realize now was a big mistake.

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: My GPA is already close to being out of the academic probation threshold, I have enrolled in summer classes in an attempt to better myself and improve my overall GPA. I have met with an academic advisor and have made note of ways to better cope when I find my personal life conflicting with my schoolwork. I do not believe my degree plan is an issue and I think retaking prerequisite courses will help me get back on track by getting a better understanding of key content. I also plan to consult with Student Academic Success Services in the future to help me develop learning strategies that will aid me going forward with my education .
I greatly appreciate you taking the time to read this .
Respectfully,
