Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean,

I am writing to appeal the 21-day deadline, as I have missed the deadline due to the circumstances that have been affecting me and my family. Once I learned I was required to withdraw for one year I began the appeal process by collecting documentation and writing my letter, however, I did not submit my appeal because of my mothers condition. My mother was diagnosed with metastasized invasive ductal carcinoma, an extreme, fast growing form of breast cancer in February of this year. Being away from home while my mother was beginning the first steps of her treatment was difficult and I was unaware of what I would be returning home to. The first stages of chemotherapy were extremely difficult and I was left to care for my mother as my parents are going through a divorce and do not interact with one another. My mother is on a year long chemo plan and I was under the impression that the treatments would be same grueling treatment every second week for a year and that she would need me to help her recover and take over her usual responsibilities, forcing me to stay in Vancouver and help her through chemo, however, her treatment has changed to a more mild chemotherapy that has little to no side effects on her and her health. She is slowly returning to her original heath, permitting me to return my focus to my academics.

Thank you for your consideration.
Regards,
Alaina Beach
