Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: I would like to request to drop this course after the course deadline due to circumstances beyond my control. As my professor for this course is aware, I have had numerous health conditions this semester that have hindered my ability to perform as neccesary in this course. After much consideration with my healthcare providers and professors they both agreed that if necessary they will support my appeal to drop this course after the deadline. My conditions have limited me physically, as I was unable to attend lectures without assistance; and many times throughout the semester I had to miss class due to mandatory follow-up appointments and various hospital visits and admissions. Statistics requires a recommended 9 hours of studying a week and I could not meet the demands without compromising my physical and mental health, and stay on top of my other courses as well. There are many deadlines for quizzes that I have missed and can not make up and despite my best efforts, can not give statistics the efforts it needs but not for lack of trying. I was advised many times by the professor to drop this course earlier in the semester however, because I had finally recovered from my surgery I figured I would be able to make up for the missed work. Unfortunately, since then I have faced a multitude of lapses in health both related to the surgery I underwent in September, and due to flare ups in pre-exisitng auto-immune conditions. I apologize if this lacks clarity and if you require more information or medical notes I would be happy to forward it. Dropping this course would greatly alleviate so much of the stress and anxiety I have been experiencing as a result of being so behind in this course and would provide me with the opportunity to re-take this course when my issues subside and provide me with the chance to have my grades reflect my dedication and hard work.
