Petition Letter

Petition Letter: To The Associate Dean of Arts & Science,

After having completed a minimum 3 year-withdraw mandated until Winter 2019, I am writing in application to have my restricted status decision lifted. Should it be granted, my goal is to return to complete my studies in Drama during the Winter 2020 term.

During my previous studies my academics were not held at the appropriate priority of importance, as I experienced extensive problems with mental-health, substance use, financial and social instability. My presence in the classroom was transient, and I was very fortunate to receive the department awards and generous work opportunities I was given within the Department of Drama despite this. Even after stopping my studies at Queen's University, I was given industry and personal support opportunities by Dept. Head Craig Walker and Dept. Coordinator Lee Atkinson that are very important to me now in adulthood.
My lifestyle problems and lack of good decision-making throughout my studies also resulted in having an abortion, causing me great emotional and spiritual trauma. During this sensitive time I felt very unsupported (link to Queen's Journal below) and did not give my studies their due diligence. Now in my 30's I have a better comprehension and resolution for this experience and it no longer impacts my daily thoughts and actions.

Having grown professionally as Ann ordained officiant and small business owner I have also started a financial portfolio and excelled in my chosen industry of weddings, entertainment and media. With new positive experiences, I have a renewed sense of motivation and personal confidence I did not have while studying previously. Over the past three years my patterns of professional and stable personal behaviour have cemented a precedent of success, and I wish to utilize my new skills and stable lifestyle in pursuit of graduation. I have consulted the appropriate academic advisors and have detailed a plan for success below, should be appeal be granted.

Thank-you for sharing your valuable time with me in consideration of this appeal request. I look forward to continuing my academic pursuits and being a member of the Queen's University community once again.

Warmly, Kendra Pierroz

Academic Plan

Academic Plan: Being only one class away from completing my degree positions me as a highly motivated learner no longer facing lifestyle or financial barriers. I am confident my future academic performance will be more impressive than the past, and I plan to only take one class at a time to fully concentrate all my efforts in one area to maximize my grade earning potential.
I also understand after consulting with academic advisors that I will have to complete multiple classes to increase my overall GPA for graduation eligibility. I intend to begin by taking classes I have previously attempted and failed, to achieve this as quickly as possible. At this time I am pursuing a 3 year arts degree with a minor in Drama. Upon completion of this goal I will re-evaluate this goal with my department advisor to calculate if it is logical to pursue the original goal of an Honours degree with a Drama major. I will not be working full-time during my studies to alleviate stress, and have secured my financial freedom for the near future so I will not be hindered by a lack of funds or tension around providing for my basic needs as a student. Thank-you for your time and careful consideration. Best, Kendra Pierroz
