Petition Letter
Petition Letter: I am writing to request Aegrotat status in GPHY 102/3.0 9 (Fall 2014 term). I have completed 65 of the required workload in the course with the exception of the final exam worth 35, and although I do not have confirmation of my average so far, I believe it is around 80.
I was unable to prepare and write the exam scheduled on December 16th due to extenuating circumstances beyond my control. I was very ill starting on December 9th culminating in my being admitted to the hospital on December 15th. I still have severe tonsillitis and also have been diagnosed with mononucleosis. I am still very ill and I expect that I will be unwell over the entire holiday break. The effects of my illness will linger for months and will make it extremely challenging for me to prepare for a make-up exam. In addition, although I hope to return to classes in January, the symptoms of the mononucleosis will linger on for several months into the new year - this would make it very difficult to prepare for an exam in addition to a challenging course load this winter term. I feel that preparing for a make-up exam in addition to my winter course load in the new year could jeopardize my academic performance in my other courses.
This appeal being granted is my best chance of achieving academic success as I will be able to focus entirely on my winter courses during a time when I will be at reduced capacity. I plan to make sure I get enough rest, eat healthy, and be monitored by by doctor in the new year to ensure I recover fully and stay healthy for the rest of the term.
I have been in contact with Professor Treitz who is aware of my situation and has offered his support for my appeal.
