Petition Letter: I am writing this appeal today to request to drop PSYC 370 due to the tremendous amount of stress that I have been under this semester, which has resulted in me having a lot of trouble in terms of time management and focus. Unfortunately, my maternal grandfather passed away the weekend before Thanksgiving this year, causing me to become quite distressed. He had a series of heart attacks, which we had initially thought were not serious, but he was unable to heal and he passed away. He had been dealing with health troubles for quite a few years and died as a result of a combination of heart, liver and kidney problems. His passing was very upsetting for my family and I, I miss him very much, and this has caused me to become distracted.
Additionally, I am currently working two jobs that have taken up quite a lot of my time and head space. One job is to help me in paying my bills, and the other is to help me get an early jump start on work after I graduate; I took a research job at KGH. This job was initially meant to last just the summer, however I got involved in more projects than I had anticipated, and the team decided to keep me on. Although I feel very fortunate to have this job, seeing as how it is going to help me a lot in my career, we are closing in on quite a few tight deadlines, including attempting to get a paper submitted in December and I am struggling to keep up with the workloads from work and school. I took some time off after my grandfathers passing but I am still quite distressed.
Finally, I recently became aware of the fact that I only needed to take one elective for a Life Sci credit this semester, however I took two, PSYC 370 and CANC 380. I am in my 5th year and have a light course load this semester and next, with only a few credits left to graduate; due to this family tragedy I am grateful for the lighter workload at school, however I am still struggling. I have decided to request to drop one because due to amount of stress that I am under; I do not think I will be able to manage both exams, and I believe that CANC 380 has more knowledge applicable to my field.
I have attached the link to my grandfather¿¿s obituary.
Thank you immensely for taking the time to hear out my request.
