Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: July 27th only four days before my final exam for my HIST 124 course, I was raped and sexually assaulted by a man I did not know when I was functionally unconscious. This event is the worst thing that has ever happened to me and has changed my life. My parents have not been fully supportive and told me I had no choice but to continue with school, this semester I have barely attended any of my classes but luckily my professors have been very supportive and helped me along the way. The reason I am appealing the summer course and to get Credit Standing is that I worked very hard all summer to get good grades, I was studying for the exam on that day everything happened and I was prepared for the upcoming exam. Since this has happened I have done a lot to help improve my mental well being, I see my doctor twice a month, and see my counsellor once a week. Up until christmas time I was seeing a social worker who specifies in trauma at KGH as well tried to join a support group. Most recently I got a dog who I am now taking to training to be an emotional support animal to help me cope and to reduce my anxiety. The reason I can't write the exam now is that the information/notes are triggering for me to read, secondly, it has been a semester since the course ended and I would have to re-teach myself the entire course. It is not a core course but rather an elective for 6 credits, for that reason, in my opinion, it does not seem necessary to follow the initial course evaluation structure. I am passing the course and the exam only being 20 it does not seem worthwhile to endure this material all over again and it would be best for my mental well being to have this in the past.
