Petition Letter

Petition Letter: To the Associate Dean of Studies

I am writing to you to appeal for a reevaluation of the course econ 239 Economic
Development. My family had been through a traumatic event just the day before the exam. As
my father was driving my little brother to school that morning they were t-boned just outside our
neighbourhood and the car was totaled. Fortunately, they were both alright physically alright,
however, everyone was shaken that day. Being far from home receiving so many calls as to what
was going on I was also concerned for my family. Although I was still a little upset I still went
and wrote the exam the very next day at 2:00. I went into this exam with an overall grade of 91, I
had been studying for days and had done all the work, however, due to my poor performance on
the exam I dropped to a 75 overall. This was simply due to the fact that I had been distracted for
the past day. This is a large discrepancy that is only seen with this course. All of the others were
consistent with my performance throughout the semester which is why I am only appealing this
one. I will take time this semester to see a counsellor and go over some strategies I can use which
can help me come in events such as these. Or what potential next steps could have been. I hope
you will consider my request for revaluation. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Regards,

Dharma Patel
