Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean (Studies):
I am appealing the Faculty¿¿s decision that replace my GEOL 102 grade to CR( Fall,2019 ).
My grandfather passed away on November 13th. My family member told me on the end of
November because they did not want to affect my studies.( they thought I was on holiday and has
finished my exams). I has an emotional breakdown. My grandfather raised my since I was born,
we were really close, and I am international student, I felt so sad that I can not go back to China
for the funeral at that time. I can¿¿t concentrate during the period of review, which is from the end
of November until the day I had exam. And the reason why just GEOL 102 has been affected is
thing happened at the end of November and early December, only GEOL 102 and FREN 106 had
final exam, and other courses didn¿¿t have final exam. And my FREN 106 did not been affect
because the grade of final exam only takes 15 of the course. And I have certain language
talents. Besides, I usually do online assignment very carefully and I have grasp of the knowledge
in class. The exam questions are very basic. I think what is most important about language course
is mainly depends on the usual accumulation rather than the review before the exam. But the
review of geography is very important. Although I listened carefully during the class, I can not fully
remember all the details of the knowledge. The impact of the review period will cause my memory
efficiency to decline and I cannot concentrate to remember the details of the knowledge, and the
final test had a lot of questions are about details. And the final exam of GEOL 102 takes 50 of
the course, so I think my final grade is affected which is an extenuating circumstance. My emotion
has gradually better now, and I am ready for the next semester of school. I will definitely study
hard and improve my GPA next semester.
