I am seeking Credit Standing (CR) for ENSC 483 (Special Topics in Environmental Science II). My final grade in the class was a C-. This was a result of receiving a failing grade on my final assignment. Below I have outlined the grades I received in the course to display the discrepancy.
Participation: 16/20 (80)
Essay outline: 8/10 (80)
Seminar presentation: 19/25 (76)
Seminar paper: 4/5 (80)
Final essay: 14/40 (35)
At the time of my Grandmother¿¿s health decline and passing, I was registered in four courses. ENSC 483 was the only course impacted by my extenuating circumstances, as the final assignment, worth significantly more than other assignments in the course, was due during the period of time in which I was grieving my Grandmother¿¿s death, and travelling internationally to attend her funeral. My Grandmother passed away on November 10th 2019, and her funeral was on November 23rd 2019. The assignment, Final Essay, was due on November 27th. I travelled from Kingston to Toronto on November 20th and my flight from Pearson International Airport to Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands was on November 21st at 9:25am. I flew back from Grand Cayman to Toronto on November 25th and arrived back to Kingston that night at 11:30pm. I submitted an Academic Consideration for Extenuating Circumstances on November 25th after falling into a depressive state, and was granted an extension on the assignment from Dr. Hird.
The request for Academic Consideration for Extenuating Circumstances also included two other courses, ENSC 321 (Environmental Justice in Global Context) and ENSC 430 (Honours Project in Environmental Sustainability). These courses were included on the form based on the fact that I required documentation to be absent from mandatory tutorials and a presentation. Thus, these courses were not severely impacted compared to ENSC 483.
As time has passed since my Grandmother¿¿s death and her funeral, my grieving has improved as I have fallen back into my normal routine. I am currently enrolled in five courses, three in-class and two online, and am on track to graduate this spring. I plan to be successful in all my courses this semester.
