Dear Sir or Madam,

Re: Academic Appeal to the Associate Deans (Studies)

I am writing to request Credit standing and Aegrotat standing for marks I received in two courses in the fall semester. The courses and marks are as follows:
1. Video Production (FILM 392) ¿¿ C (appealing for Aegrotat standing)
2. Children¿¿s Literature (ENGL 237) ¿¿ C+ (appealing for Credit standing)

In late November, I called my mom and dad in Toronto to say I wanted to come home. At the time, I had many late assignments, pending assignments and upcoming exams. Until then, I hadn¿¿t told anyone about how I was feeling: I wasn¿¿t able to focus, I slept all the time and I just wanted to drop out and never return. I had felt this way since about the beginning of October.

My mother came to Kingston the next morning. She helped me write e-mails asking my professors for extensions, and together we prepared a study schedule. She stayed with me for 10 days while I worked on papers and projects and wrote exams ¿¿ none at my usual level. Nonetheless, I managed to finish most assignments, but I simply couldn¿¿t finish two major projects for my Video Production class, and my final assignment for Children¿¿s literature was so late I lost significant marks.

During the Christmas break, I went to see my doctor (see attachment), and she provided a diagnosis and treatment. I am also now seeing a therapist (see attachment) once a week. I have returned to Queen¿¿s, but I am only taking two courses and returning home almost every weekend.

I am appealing these two marks because I hope to go to graduate school. For the past two years I have been on the Dean¿¿s List, and I never dreamed in a million years that this would happen to me. I am taking it slowly this semester and getting professional help so I can heal and hopefully graduate from Queen¿¿s with the spirit and enthusiasm with which I started this journey.

Sincerely yours,

Sophia Commanducci
