Petition Letter

Petition Letter: To whom this may concern,

Please consider this letter as an application to raise an appeal to extend the incomplete grade in MATH121 in order to write both the midterm and final examinations. This request is due to the compounded impact that my anxiety disorder had on my performance with examinations. I attempted to write the first half of my MATH121 midterm in September 2019 where I experienced a heightened level of anxiety, feeling as though my mind suddenly went blank, and the sensation of my chest feeling tight and my heart pounding. This was deemed an invalid attempt by the proctor. Instead of continuing on to writing the second half, I sought help from medical professionals here at Dalhousie University and have spoken to same day counselling services and doctors at the student clinic. With this being said, it took time to feel mentally prepared to walk into that examination again to be able to successfully write. At that point in time, when I felt prepared, I was unable to get a hold of my accommodation¿¿s advisor at Queen¿¿s, Monique Dube, to ensure adequate accommodations were in place to be able to reschedule the examination with Meghan Wilmott in the Exam Office. I emailed multiple times but was only able to speak with Monique over the phone in January when she put stop-the-clock breaks in place for both my MATH121 examinations. Now that these accommodations are in place, I would appreciate an opportunity to be able to have a successful attempt at writing these examinations.

I appreciate your kind consideration.

Sincerely,
Morgan Benoit
