Petition Letter: Appeal Letter
Dear Associate dean
My name is Zheng Zeng, my student number is 20042902. I am appealing to drop ECON 222 and MUSC 104 from Fall 2018, FREN 107 from Winter 2019, ENIN 207 from Summer 2019, ECON 255, ECON 222, ECON 280 and EMPR 210 from Fall 2019.
Last year have been miserable for me, I was having major sleeping issues and have had low energy all the time. I tried hard and could not focus. It has contributed to my academic failures. I am back home in Vancouver and is seeking medical help and counseling, the doctor has diagnosed me with Anxiety/Depression. Now with the combination of pills, counseling and family support, I have a better state of mind. Upon reflection, I think my problems started in 2017. I have always been an A student throughout my life, I did well in High School with the IB program. Going into University I was very confident and excited, but in my first year I failed my Psychology course and I was struggling with Math courses. My confidence took a big hit, and I started having lots of self-doubts. So in my second year I decided to take some electives that may be easier, so I took MUSC 104 and FREN 107, at that time I got into a bad relationship, and it was affecting my studies, this also cause my relationship with my family to be worse, I was not talking to my mother about anything and was in a bad place. With all that going on I ended up failing both Music and French that year, I felt my mood was severely affected at the time and I was feeling very low, but with the Chinese culture I was not open about it with anyone, I chose to keep it to my self and deny it. I was trying super hard to make up for this and doing everything I can to study for my course during the summer, but despite my efforts, I failed ENIN 207 and only got C- in my Economics course. I have always had a passion for business and loved ECON in high school. With everything that happened, I started feeling low all the time, not having any energy and motivation. Again I didn't open up to my family, I wanted to meet their expectation so I went back to school, trying to ignore the fact that I am not feeling well. During the past semester, I was trying my best, but I was still not doing well, I was failing my quiz, I started feeling desperate, like nothing I did matter, at this time my girlfriend broke up with me, with the combination of everything it just got to me. I felt miserable every day, didn't want to get up, didn't want to go out, didn't want to talk to anyone. My mental state was a mess, I failed all my courses, and I know I can't keep hiding it anymore, I told my mom everything, she is very supportive for me and we made the decision to take a break from school and seek professional help. Now that I am getting the help and support I need, I am regaining energy and motivation, becoming more hopeful about my future. My goal is to keep seeing the help I need, getting to a better state of mind so that I can finish my studies and finish school successfully. I have talked to my family and we think it may be better for me to finish school in BC close to home with the support I need. I hope you can understand my situation and drop my failed classes, so I can apply to schools in BC.
