Petition Letter: Hi, my name is Yifan Wu. My student number is 20108626. I am appealing to drop MATH 280 (Fall, 2019) in the last term.

I got 46 in the final grade in Math 280 and lead me to the result of failing that course. I've tried to communicate with my professor, but he was unable to make up a meeting with me after the end of the fall term. And so, I went to ask another professor that is also lecturing the same course and unfortunately, he is not quite sure for the grading rule and nothing can be changed since it's a few weeks later. That is not what I want to argue for, I have considered many times for the reasons why it will end up in such a depressing grade. Some of the reasons are due to physical illness, I was sick several times during the study period and wasn't able to go to the lecture, study well and prepared for the quizzes and final exam. I thought I would still able to catch up to the learning criteria after those sicknesses as I did all the homework and attempt to most of the quizzes. I've even asked my other friends in the same course to send me their notes and review together, but it seems like that the course materials are a bit exceeding my knowledge of understanding. After taking this course, I realize that studying math is not what I really desire and giving me a lot of stressful moments.

I am now changing into the branch of film and media study, which is what I really interested in and is more suitable for my personality. The reason why I want to drop MATH 280 is that I have taken a lighter workload for this semester and I want to take some courses during the summer semester for self-improvement. However, due to the coronavirus situation, most of the summer school has decided to shut down and the remaining one requires a GPA of 1.9 which I am still a bit offset from the needed score. Therefore, if you can give me this opportunity to drop this course so that my GPA can raise up to meet the requirement, it would be a huge help and allowing me to spend more time in the field that I am really fond of. I know that this might give you a bit of an inconvenience. But I really need your approval in order to drop the course.

Additional Information: Peking University is the summer school that I'm planning to study during the summer term. Courses that I might take are for example 30340076 MODERN CHINESE FICTION THROUGH FILM (3.0) which is equivalent to QUEEN's FILM 2UNS/3.0. Though the courses are elective, the information provided in the courses is extremely helpful to my future plan as it provides a more dynamics perspective to view and understanding the aspects of the essential filming elements.
